About Galvanised Plates

The zinc layer is metallurgically bonded to the steel and acts as a sacrificial barrier. Even a scratch will not rust straight away because the surrounding zinc protects the exposed steel electrochemically.

Equiserve stocks GI plates in gauge 30 through gauge 22 (roughly 0.3mm to 0.7mm) plus heavier plate thicknesses on order.

FAQ

Galvanised Plates — questions we get asked.

What gauge for roofing?

G30 (0.30mm) is the entry gauge for temporary and low-cost roofing. G28 and G26 are standard for residential; G24 and G22 for commercial and industrial roofs.

Can galvanised plates be welded?

Yes but the zinc coating produces fumes — always weld outdoors or with extraction, and re-galvanise the weld area (cold galvanising spray) to restore corrosion protection.
